How to Use Natural Shampoo

Posted by admin in Hair Loss

There are a lot of reasons why you might select a natural shampoo. Many people use it because they like living a green lifestyle. Others find that natural ingredients lead to healthier hair. Natural shampoo is often found to be easier on dyed hair. You might also like natural shampoos because they may be used as soothing body washes also.

But the word natural can be used deceptively. Sometimes it simply indicates the presence of natural ingredients. When you see the words natural ingredients they refer to just about anything derived from nature. As a result the shampoo might contain some natural ingredients and some unnatural ones. A few preservatives and even dyes are generally okay. Of course sensitive skin can have more trouble with colors and fragrances. Serious problem ingredients often undo the benefits of natural ingredients.

Keep a close eye out for lauryl- and laureth sulfate. This is what makes shampoo foam. However, in addition it strips hair. The result is hair that becomes brittle and weak over time. Also, it will destroy color. Lightening and dulling of hair is a result of excessive lauryl sulfate use. Anything with the words Lauryl or Laureth should be avoided.

Also, keep an eye out for sufur and sulfides. These ingredients are common in dandruff shampoos. It would certainly be fair to say that sulfur is natural. But it can actually exacerbate some types of skin conditions and cause dandruff. If you elect to use a sulfur based shampoo, keep it away from your eyes. You might also end up with hair that is drier than usual.

Natural shampoos share a few common characteristics.

* They do not tend to have many ingredients - Most of the ingredients in shampoos are artificial. Most natural shampoos will just have a base of soap and a few other ingredients.

* There is not much foam when using natural shampoos - This is because they do not have the artificial foaming ingredients.

* Often they have ingredients that you would look for in your cupboards - Do not be surprised to see apple cider vinegar, herbs or baking soda. In fact a number of people just use vinegar and baking soda to wash their hair.

If you have perfect hair and love your shampoo, then stick with it! If you are on the prowl for a new natural shampoo, then be sure you are getting the real deal. The secret ingredients can cause major damage to your hair. Make sure that your natural shampoo is really natural before you start washing your hair with it.
